How Taxis Are Keeping Clean Whilst Delivering COVID-19 Patients
Thanks to a partnership between the NHS and taxi firm Gett, taxi drivers across the southwest have been transporting COVID-19 patients, as well as patients who need assessments for non-urgent health conditions.
Delivering COVID-19 patients to the hospital in the midst of a pandemic is a very risky job, especially if you are in close contact with them multiple times every single day.
So what measures are being taken to reduce the risk of the disease spreading within the taxis themselves? Also, what happens to taxi drivers who may already have an underlying health condition?
Some protective measures have included:
– More covering of the privacy screen between the driver and passenger where applicable
– No hand-to-hand contact
– After each journey, the passenger cabin will have a deep cleansing provided by the NHS, with thorough cleaning wearing full PPE
– All fabrics covered with wipeable material
– Masks for the passengers and driver, all provided by the NHS
– Alcohol gel for the driver
– Open window throughout journeys in passenger cabin to reduce chances of virus spreading
As an additional precaution, any driver with an underlying health condition that could be seriously impacted by COVID-19 will not be asked (nor allowed) to take part in this service.
Important Notice: If you or someone in your household experiences any symptoms of COVID-19, it is important to self isolate for at least 1 week. Remember that any close contact whilst working could risk spreading the virus. Stay Alert. Protect The NHS. Save Lives.
